The Curtain came down on the P&D’s Centenary Season with the Men’s Finals at Leigh Park BC on Saturday September 13th.

Three Sessions were required as Denmead’s Mike Wright was going to be a Busy Man, having Qualified in 3 Finals.

Fortunately, Leigh Park didn’t suffer from the Down Pours that hit most areas of Portsmouth, so the Morning Session started on time at 10a m with the Singles, Pairs and Triples being played

Singles

Saw Leigh Park’s Jamie Ward taking on Milton Park’s Tony Hall. It was cagey match until the 13th End, the score being Level at 12 All. At that point, Jamie took control and won the next 7 ends to Run Out the Victor 21-12.

Pairs

Was between Milton Park’s Tony Molloy & Chris Chamberlain and Waverley’s Gary Clements & Gary Starks. The Milton Duo got off to a Great Start and raced into a 10-2 Lead after 6Ends. They never let their Opponents get a Sniff, leading 19-7 after 14 Ends. Although the Gary’s won the next 3 Ends, they Shook Hands after the Penultimate End. The Final Score was 19-11 for the Miltonians

Triples

This was the 1st of Double Header between Denmead’s Mike Wright & Purbrook Heath’s Lewis Voysey.

Mike’s Team Mates were Steven Schofield & Richard Allan, Lewis’ Tony Wall & Nathan Hanley. A 5 on the 1st End settled the Denmead Trio’s Nerves, despite dropping a 3 on the 3rd End. After 9 Ends, Denmead were 13-9 up and then put “Pedal To The Metal” to be 20-10 up after 13 Ends and a 4 on the 16th End was enough for their Opponents to Shake Hands, with the Denmead Trio Winning 24-13.

At the end of the Session, the Winners were Presented with their Trophy by P&D’s President Martin Eggleton.

Post Lunch Session

Saw the Three Other “Aged” Related Single’s Finals Played.

Over 60’s Singles

This was a Re-Run of the Previous Week’s Champion Of Champions Final as Rowner’s Phil Pender took on Denmead’s Mike Wright.

And it was a Similar Match, Phil Leading 10-4 after 9 Ends, Mike getting his Nose Ahead 11-10 after 12 Ends. At that point, Phil found his Line more consistently over the Next 12 Ends to finally win 21-16 after 24 Ends.

Under 25’s Singles

This was between Lee-on-the-Solent’s Joshua Thompson (hoping to retain the Trophy) and Alexandra’s Alfie Smith (a Previous Winner).

The 1st 10 Ends were Nip&Tuck and saw Joshua 9-5 Up. He then won the next 4 Ends to Lead 17-5 and never let Alfie in to Win 21-10 after 22 Ends.

Under 18’s Singles

This was a Rowner Affair between Riley Watts & Carson Stafford. By the end of the 18th End, the Lead had alternated between the Pair and, at that point Riley was Just Ahead 13-12. At that point, Riley the won the next 5 Ends to Run Out the Victor

21-12.

That Concluded the Post Lunch Session and the 3 Winners were Presented with their Winner’s Trophy by the P&D’s Vice-President Les Davis

Afternoon Session

The P&D’s Centenary Season ended with Wright vs Voysey Part 2, in the Form of the Fours Final.

The Denmead Four was Mike’s Triples Team Plus Ray Beale, whilst Purbrook’s was the Lewis’ Triples Plus Mark Berry.

This time, it was the Purbrook Rink who took Complete Control of the game going to 15-1 Lead after just 7 Ends, which they extended to be 21-2 up after 10 Ends. A brief fightback from the Denmead Foursome was quashed by a 3 on the 14th End, at which point Hands were Shook All Round, with Purbrook Winning 24-6.

Post-Match, they were Presented with the Trophy by Competition Secretary Bob Scottow.

Thanks were given to Leigh Park BC for Hosting the Finals and providing Meals & Beverages to all those who had Played or Watched.
